Marina Toeters (NL)
From 29 January 2011 until 5 June 2011, the Hasselt Fashion Museum will be showing visions on the future from the past and the possible future of tomorrow with ‘The Future That Never Was – Alter Nature’. This exhibition offers visitors a ‘futuristic’ glimpse of the magical year 2000 by designers from the 1960s, as well as a taste of the new possibilities of tomorrow.
Designer Marina Toeters studies the opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration between fashion and science/technology. To do so, she set up the initiative by-wire.net, a platform for the design and research relating to fashion and technology. An example of her work is the antibacterial dress ‘Huggy Care’, which is on show in the exhibition. Toeters also works on all sorts of applications for businesses, lectures in ecology and technology at various institutes, and gives regular talks on the theme. by-wire.net
